SUMMER NEWS
Garden City
Community School
Learning to live!.....Living to learn!
TOURS
School is closed until August 18, but we
are open every Thursday from 4:00 – 6:00 PM for
tours of the school. This is a great
opportunity to learn more about our school, get
your application entered, or bring family to
show off the school you will be attending soon!
APPLICATIONS
Yes! We are still taking applications for
enrollment in grades K – 12. Many classes are
full, but our waiting lists are not long yet, so
get your application in right away so you’ll be
higher on the list! This application may be
found on this website under “APPLICATIONS”.
KINDERGARTEN
We are very excited to announce our new
kindergarten program! It will include a
morning, afternoon and all-day option. We have
hired Elizabeth Sackman for the AM class and
Megan Jones for the PM. Each of these teachers
bring years of early childhood experience with
them and have exciting plans for the upcoming
year! Elizabeth has been teaching at St.
Michael’s Pre-School CoOp and Megan has worked
at GCCS, St. Michael’s and the Boise Children’s
School.
GCCS has just leased additional space next
to the school’s office where an entirely bright,
new classroom is being created for these
children. There are just a few openings left,
so don’t miss the chance to get your child’s
education off to such a great start!
For students who are enrolled in our
kindergarten, there will be a fun, entertaining
“Get-to-Know-You” afternoon at the school
Monday, August 11 from 2:00-4:00PM.
NEW TEACHERS
We welcome our new teachers to the school:
Elizabeth Sackman, kindergarten and Marti
Hinckley, 1st-2nd combination class teacher.
Soon we will also be introducing our new 7th-8th
combination class teacher!
VOLUNTEERS
Leave a message on the school phone
(377-0011) if you are interested in helping
paint at the school or help teachers move. We
will have project days throughout the summer and
your help will be appreciated!
SUMMER CONFERENCES
Our staff has been busy attending
conferences to continue their learning – even
during the summer! Rebecca (arts & community
integration coordinator), Tawnia and Lisa (3rd-4th
combination class teachers) had a wonderful time
at the Arts-Powered Conference sponsored by the
Idaho Commission on the Arts and the Idaho
Department of Education. This conference
focuses on integrating the arts (visual, music,
drama) in to the curriculum – which, of course,
is everyday life at GCCS! The team is already
making plans for our 08-09 drama program with
our new artist-in-residence, Anna Marie Boles!
A team participated in the National Charter
School Conference recently in New Orleans.
Along with 3,000 other people involved with
charters, they learned more about facilities,
financing, curriculum, mentoring, community
service, environmental projects, parent
involvement, assessments, and other aspects of
education. They will be sharing these at the
next board meeting and staff trainings.
Attending were: board members Jan & Bill,
teacher Marin, parent/teacher Megan and director
Cindy.
REGISTRATION PACKETS
Kindergarten families who have been
accepted received a packet in June to get
started with their official registration
process. The rest of the grades – in addition
to the kinders – will be receiving detailed
information forms to complete later in July.
Once these arrive, it’s very important for them
to be completed and returned immediately, so
watch the mail!
SCHOOL START
School will start with an early release day
on Monday, August 25 for grades 1-8 and Tuesday,
August 26 for kindergarten. |
