Design Documentation: IntroductionAs the design for the Garden City Community School unfolds, we will be displaying the results of the process here as the “Design Documentation.” These materials are a permanent part of the design of the school. They are also subject to change based on the contributions of community members and the on-going dialogue about the direction of the community and the foundation of the school. The following documents from the “Designers’ Notebook” may help you think through responses to the Guiding Questions: Image 1: Garden City The Participatory Educational Design process begins with the creation of an Image for the community. The Image is formed from the core values and core ideas that Garden City residents have contributed in response to the following Guiding Question: What should be the markers (core values & core ideas) of the image of the Garden City that we want to live in, and the kind of life that we want our children to have? This question, and the other Guiding Questions in the design process, are continually open for reflection and response. If after reading the Image you wish to see something added, amended, or removed, contact the school organizers. The second part of the design process is the creation of an Image of Education. This Image is formed from the core values and core ideas (markers) that residents have contributed in response to the following Guiding Question: What should be the markers of a system of learning and human development (school) for Garden City that can contribute to realizing our first image and help to fulfill the potential of all people that it serves?
