Community Council

This group is open to everyone and includes families, staff, board members, students, and interested community members. Two parents are elected to be parent representatives to the GCCS Board and maintain communication between the groups – although everyone is encouraged to participate in all school board meetings.

It has been established as a forum for all stakeholders to discuss aspects of the schools, share opinions and ideas, and help create or fine-tune various aspects of the school.  We are a very “transparent” school and believe we can only be successful if everyone feels welcome and important – because they certainly are!

More About the Community Council

Both Sara Covington and Michael Tetrault are the current parent reps to the board and can be contacted through their e-mail addresses as follows:

mtetrault@cableone.net  and  sara_covington@hotmail.com

A brief description of their experience can be found at the ‘school board’ link along the left-hand side of the GCCS website.  Please do not hesitate to e-mail either of them with your questions or concerns.

Other opportunities the Community Council will provide or assist with:

  • Fundraising opportunities that support the students and school (providing field trips, guest speakers/facilitators, supplies that support the arts and environment, etc…)
  • Brief trainings/demonstrations on Adlerian Psychology; how it is applied at the school as well as how families may use the strategies at home with their own children
  • A way of connecting professionally, personally and socially with other parents, students and staff members within the GCCS community through pot-luck socials, craft nights and academically-themed activity nights
  • Please check the monthly online newsletters (as well as those distributed by each teacher within their individual class) for upcoming dates and times.

Being the small school that we are, it is of vital importance that we get as many  stakeholders within the GCCS community as possible to support the school through their participation and expertise as we continue to try and provide the best possible educational experience for all of our students.
